“But now I’ll tell thee joyful tidings, girl.”

First page of Duty by Pamela Rafael Berkman

Can’t help but be over the moon that the reprint rights to my story “Duty,” have just sold in a six figure deal! “Duty” is from my collection of short stories Her Infinite Variety: Stories of Shakespeare and the Women He Loved, which imagines stories from the points of view of women from Shakespeare’s life and plays. In it, Juliet’s mother, Lady Capulet, reveals her secret past and her thoughts and memories as she stands outside the Capulet tomb where Juliet has died with Romeo. The deal is for renewal of rights to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt to use the story in their leading national ELA curriculum, Collections. I’ve done some great school visits to high school classes to talk about this story with the students!
